Curriculum
THINGS TO DO
The Hazel Park Learning Center’s Childcare Program uses curriculum that focuses on using Minnesota’s early learning standards for young children, birth to five years, called the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIP). The ECIPs cover all areas of children’s development, including Social and Emotional, Approaches to Learning, Language and Literacy, Creativity and the Arts, Cognitive, and Physical and Motor development. These six areas are called “domains.” Each domain includes several indicators of children’s progress in gaining concepts, knowledge, and skills. Goals and objectives as developmentally appropriate:

Gross – Climbing activities, swinging, running
Fine – Small muscle activities; eye-hand coordination (practical life)
Fine – Manipulation of fingers (sensorial): small manipulative activities, painting.

WHAT PARENTS SAY ABOUT US
“Just over two years ago, our in-home daycare relocated to California and we were left uncertain of what to do next. Unfamiliar with centers, we were apprehensive about transitioning to both new people and a whole new place and system. Luckily, we were referred to Hazel Park. It is the perfect hybrid! It has the conveniences and capabilities of a center, in the cozy and relaxed environment of a home-away-from-home. Every morning we truly feel like we’re leaving our 4-year-old and 2-year-old in the hands of family. In addition to the people, facilities and fun, our girls always come home having learned a ton! We thank Hazel Park for their attention, patience, understanding, love, communication and joy they give our family. It’s affects are immeasurable.”

“During a long search for just the right preschool fit, we received a glowing recommendation for Hazel Park. We toured many sites, asking all the hard parent questions when a neighbor and friend informed us of the benefits of Hazel Park. She had sent her two boys there upon a recommendation from another friend who sent her two children. Good news travels fast. Good care is hard to find. Our oldest, Kincaid, had just turned four and came from a small, home daycare setting. He was shy and nervous about the transition, but the caring staff helped him feel safe and welcome. He was instantly introduced to a friend he has kept since then, Akain. Fast friends who loved to play, learned from the Montessori manipulatives and everyday living props from the toy assortment, as well as blocks and games galore. Now, proudly, our youngest son Louden is following in his brother’s footsteps almost parallel alongside his friend’s younger brother, Krishen. Don’t just take it from me: “My favorite part was the counting games, learning to spell my name, and making friends” (Kincaid, now age 8). Learning the core knowledge that has now taken him deep into elementary school and carry him over a lifetime.”

“We have been a part of the Hazel Park family for almost four years. What we love is the care and compassion the teachers show to each and every child. Every day I know our two children are in a loving, safe, nurturing and enriched environment. We appreciate the flexibility, understanding and individualized attention our children receive. The staff at Hazel Park have always been sensitive to the needs of children at every development level. Our children love Hazel Park because the staff makes learning fun. They have developed respect for others and confidence in their abilities.”
